Parent Relationships
Our belief
Parents are an
important partner in the learning relationship. It is
important that we keep parents fully informed about and
involved in their child's education. Successful
relationships will be built through conversations of equals
with both the teacher and the parent contributing specialist
knowledge and understanding to the conversation. Parents are
also clients in they are paying for the education. We need
to respect this client relationship.
Actions
-
Teachers should make opportunities to celebrate with
parents children's learning. This can be done by:
a. inviting the parent to school.
b. emailing or phoning parents.
c. sending home work samples with comment.
-
Parents will formally be invited to school to talk to
the teacher on the following occassions in 2005:
a. To build a learning Profile of the student in Term
One.
b. Three way Conference Term 2.
c. Three way Conference Term 3.
-
A
family event will be planned for each term.
-
A
School Open Day will be held at the end of Term One,
Term Two and Term Three.
-
Parents should be encouraged to attend assemblies when
their child is performing. Teachers should formally
invite parents giving them plenty of notice.
-
Formal letters sent home to parents must be checked
either by Principal, Deputy Principal.
-
If the occasion does arise where an irate parent calls
upon you unannounced, leave the classroom and direct the
parents to the main office. If you know a parent is
coming to see you and that the interview may be
difficult, it is wise to seek the presence of a senior
member of staff.
