Excursions
Our belief
Each year teachers
should plan to use a wide variety of learning environments
beyond the classroom. These may include the gardens of the
school, the market at the corner or the streetfront. Visits
to a company, the library, the crocodile sanctuary, the
museum, a village etc all present exciting opportunities to
make your planned theme come to life. Teachers need to plan
for excusions in terms of the expected learning experience,
the logistics of the trip and the safety issues.
Actions
-
The Administration Folder has a list of contacts for
possible places children could visit.
-
The School Excursion Planning Form should be submitted
to the Principal at least one week prior to the
excursion. Forms are available in the school office.
-
Risk Procedure: Teachers need to discuss their Risk
Procedure with the Principal.
-
A
letter and attached permission slip is sent out for each
excursion. Parents should be given at least a week's
notice of an excursion (less time and the Principal will
refuse permission). Each student must return the note or
the parent email the teacher in order to attend the
excursion.
-
An adult: pupil ratio of 1:10 is required for any trip.
-
All excursions need to have appropriate security.
-
Teachers need to ensure that a list of children with
known medical conditions and a first aid kit is in their
possession during the whole excursion.
-
A
radio and or cell phone should be taken on the
excursion.
-
All excursions need to be carefully costed so they do
not make a loss.
-
On the day of the excursion the teacher needs to ensure
it is recorded in the daily notices.
-
The grade 6 and 8 have annual exclusions outside of Port
Moresby.
