Accidents to Children

Our belief

The safety of our children is our highest priority and we must make every provision to prevent accidents . When an accident does happen it is important that we respond appropriately to ensure that the child receives appropriate treatment and the school is not exposed to legal compensation.

Actions

  1. An accident report form available from the office must be used for all accidents even when action is not required.

  2. When action is required the child or staff member must be brought to the office and the following steps followed:
    a. Office staff will take over the care of the person injured.
    b. The person reporting the accident writes a report on the Accident Report Form.
    c. If the injury is minor the office staff treat the injury and complete the Accident Report Form.
d If there is doubt about the severity of the injury the office staff involve one of the Senior Management Team and also contact the parents.
    e. If the injury is serious the parents should be contacted immediately, the Senior Management Team involved immediately.

  3. Each month a member of the Senior Management Team will monitor the Accident Reports and look for patterns with the objective of taking action to reduce accidents.
